Weekly social roundup
My favorite week of the year
And no, it’s not only because it’s my birthday and St. Patrick’s Day, but Spring is almost here, everything is in BLOOM (including my allergies), and it’s just the best week.
Okay, mostly because of my birthday.
I digress! It’s not about me (much), and you’re here for all the latest and greatest when it comes to the social media news from the past week. So here it is, all curated just for you!

Click the link in the caption?
Instagram is testing clickable links in captions 🔗
Did anyone see this coming in the year 2026? Because I definitely didn’t.
Instagram is testing clickable links inside captions, and we could all cry with happiness … except it’s only for those who have Meta Verified.
Dun dun.
Meta confirmed last week that it is starting initial beta testing of links in captions and may make them available to all Meta Verified subscribers soon.
It’s an interesting move, especially now, as Instagram used to be so anti-link sharing, and the move to make links a paid feature of the app is sneakily clever of the brand.
Again, this is still a test and isn’t a full feature just yet (if at all). However, if it does pass the beta stage, I wouldn’t be surprised if Meta limits the number of links that can be shared. At the moment, Meta Verified subscribers can add a link to their Reel; however, you’re limited to a certain number of links per month — something I can see happening with this feature.
While I think having links easily accessible in the caption could be nice, I do fear it might turn Instagram into another Facebook, and absolutely no one wants that.

Top Meta news from the week

FINALLY! You can now turn off all activity in your feed and Reels, which means you will no longer see likes, reposts, or other activities in your feed.
Watch out, EU advertisers: the cost of your ads on Meta is about to increase.
Facebook has released its new Affiliate Partnerships Hub for creators. It’s a new, easy way for creators to add affiliate links and earn money.
If you’re in a bunch of Facebook groups, you’ll know how needed this feature is: Facebook is reducing page notifications and giving users the option to choose what notifications they want.
Instagram Edits has added even more features that we’ve (me) all been desperate for: Freeze frame, teleprompter, and personalized sound effects based on your video.
Meta has updated its security across the board to protect users against scams … but it still doesn’t have a useful customer service. Make it make sense.
If you haven’t been utilizing Close Friends on Instagram, you could be missing out on a huge marketing hack.
This feels ominous … Meta is apparently laying off 20 percent of its staff. Yay, more AI investments and not keeping human beings on!!!

It seems Gen Z is over TikTok and how it feels completely inauthentic and “unfun” now.

Top YouTube news from the week

YouTube is rolling out its detection technology to more users, which will identify unauthorized AI-generated deepfakes and allow users to request their removal from the platform.
Oof. YouTube TV now has unskippable 30-second ads. Really pushing hard for users to join Premium, aren’t you, YouTube?
YouTube is allowing advertisers the ability to advertise on the top podcasts in five different categories. How expensive it’s going to be is another question entirely.

Top other social media news from the week

Substack is shifting focus and going all in on videos and podcasts. Can’t we have one platform that isn’t into short-form videos?!
And in an unexpected turn, LinkedIn is also gaining traction as a hugely cited source in AI chatbots, as well.

The rise and epic fall of Clubhouse
The rise and epic fall of Clubhouse
If you had asked me in 2020 if I thought Clubhouse was going to be the next Instagram, I would have told you, “Yes, absolutely.”
This is the reason why I avoid the casino … I never make the good bets.
We all know how quickly Clubhouse rose and then fell, but this episode of Version History goes through a deep dive on what exactly happened and why it all crashed and burned.
And that’s all, folks!
Thank you, as ever, for supporting and reading! It always means a lot. I’ll talk to you all next week!
