Weekly social roundup
A creative win this week!
Instagram really did something incredible for creators last week by announcing that if you share unoriginal content or steal content from other creators, your reach will be limited.
Yes, this is a huge win for creators, and all the details about this new update are below (read on, my friends!). Outside of that win, there are tons of new features from every single app this week, and something a bit sneaky from Reddit to try and get people to download their app (eek!).
Let’s get into it.

Huge win for creatos
Instagram says, “Original content ONLY!” 👏
It has officially happened. After almost a year of hinting at it, Instagram has announced that it will only be rewarding original content on the platform and limiting reach on those who don’t post original posts (this feature is already available on Reels; it’s just now being rolled out for posts).
It’s to help make sure creators who are spending a lot of time creating content get the credit and recognition they deserve.
So all of those accounts that reposted the same meme or tweet? Say goodbye to ever seeing them in your IG feed, as they will be officially buried … well, maybe.
There are ways to make the same content “original,” according to Instagram’s creator account:
You may post content that was originally created by someone else or includes content created by someone else, but you must make material edits to it by adding something original of your own. Material edits to someone else’s content are additional context that meaningfully enhance the entertainment, informational, or narrative value of the original content.
Basically, if someone removed your edits to a third-party post you uploaded and the content is more or less the same, you need to add more of yourself into the post! Which, I think, is pretty good advice.
What do you think? Are you glad that Instagram is finally putting their food down when it comes to original content on the platform?

Top Meta news from the week

Instagram is cracking down on unoriginal content. The app said that it will limit reach to those who post anything that isn’t original (like memes and tweets). Sad day for a lot of aggregator accounts!
Instagram is adding more perks to Instagram Plus, like seeing the exact time someone viewed your Story, reading your DMs without the “seen” receipt, and so much more.
New metrics are here on Instagram! The app is giving creators more insights into what matters most when it comes to reach.
According to the Head of Instagram, “Instants” (Instagram’s newest app) is Beta testing VERY well and will likely be rolling out to more countries soon.
If you use AI a lot on Instagram, your profile will come with a new “AI Creator” label so you can be transparent about your content.
You can watch videos at 3x speed on Facebook. Why anyone wants to do that is beyond me.
Huge news for Thread-ers! You can post directly to Threads from Meta Business Suite.
Not sure if anyone cares about this, however, Threads is testing emoji reactions to certain words in posts to increase engagement in the app. Will it work? I guess we will see.
You can change how a link looks when it’s shared on Threads with the new “Link Styles” feature.
Curious about what is currently being talked about the most on Threads? You can now see what is trending when you open the search page or the For You feed.
Edits is making editing so much easier with its newest update. You will be able to emphasize text, generate new clips inside the app, save video effects and colors to be applied across multiple projects, and so much more.
Edits is also bringing a new feature called “Versions” to the world soon, where you’ll be able to make different versions of a video and A/B test in the wild.
Edits has added AI video generation to its app, where users can request videos through photos, user videos, or text prompts.
WhatsApp is adding AI agents to its business app. Business users can set up these agents to respond to customer inquires 24/7.
