A pretty quiet week

Howdy! I’ll admit. It’s not a particularly packed week. No massive features. Nothing that makes me question (too much) why I am on the internet.

Which always makes me nervous about something major dropping in the next few weeks. Dun-dun-dun!

Anyhoo, this week might be a bit lighter in news, but it’s chock-full of useful tips, articles, and stories, so let’s get scrolling!

Meme of the week

I feel like everyone and their brother is all over the Coldplay couple (not couple), and the memes have taken over the internet. However, I’m feeling a bit strange with everyone meme-ifying this moment, especially every baseball team doing the Kiss Cam this weekend for a laugh.

Meta

• Meta refuses to sign the EU’s AI Act, stating Europe “is heading down the wrong path on AI.”

• A brand new music feature is being added to Facebook text posts.

• Big news for Broadcast Channels: You can change the profile photo on the channel. Is this big news? It seems like it is for some.

• Oh, great. The Zuck wants to say goodbye to Open AI and focus solely on building out its AI superintelligence. 

• Eeek! Meta has settled an $8 billion lawsuit with Zuckerberg over a breach of privacy on Facebook. 

• Edits has all new royalty-free music options, keyframe editing to make edits even more precise, and even more features in its latest update.

• Instagram is testing an option to see which photo on a carousel post made a viewer like your post.

• There’s zero reason to use your own brain anymore! Instagram is letting you write your bio using Meta AI.

• You’ll soon be able to have your Instagram feed automatically scroll for you.

• Live events have been majorly upgraded on Facebook with even more ways to customize.

• You can now change your Reels settings to control who can see who has liked and commented on your posts.

• More and more business accounts are now getting access to DM translations (in 99 languages!) and scheduling through the Instagram app.

• There’s a new man in charge at Threads as the app keeps growing and growing. Say hi to Connor Hayes, the new Head of Threads.

• NEW: You can send photos in DMs now on Threads.

TikTok

• TikTok is pushing hard for songwriters on the app with its new promotion feature.

• Wee! Watch TikTok Stories on your desktop.

• You can also access TikTok’s Creator Search Insights on desktop!

• TikTok has made it easier to access your camera, Thoughts (its version of Notes), and Flip Story all through the + icon at the bottom of the screen.

• Yes, TikTok is still struggling with TikTok Shop.

• FINALLY! Creators can schedule their content on TikTok’s app!

X

• You’ll soon have watermarks added to any screenshots taken of posts on X.

• Could that be X stealing ideas from Threads? Trending Topics will soon show up on the FYP on X.

• Womp womp. xAI promises not to call itself Hitler … or base its opinions on Elon Musk’s. 

• X introduces its first original show, a docuseries about a Premier League club in the UK.

YouTube

• YouTube is allowing A/B testing of Titles, along with A/B tests of thumbnails.

• YouTube clarified what it meant about demonetizing content that wasn’t “original” or “authentic.” So yes, you can use AI, but no, you can’t use it to blatantly rip off someone else.

• YouTube continues to be the #1 streaming platform.

Other

• Seeing a lot of old content on LinkedIn recently? It admitted to updating its algorithm to put more old posts in your feed.

• BeReal is attempting to make a comeback with video and chat.

• Users in the UK will need to prove they’re 18 to view mature content on Reddit.

• Another reason to stan DuckDuckGo: You can now hide AI-generated images from search.
