Features after features after features
Sorry for the radio silence last week! I took some time offline, explored the Spanish Basque region, and ate my weight in delicious food.
But I am back! And we have a lot of news to get through. Like, a lot, A LOT.
Buckle in, folks.

Better insights coming soon
Schedule Instagram Trial Reels 📆
Yes, I know this was announced almost two weeks ago, but I was on vacation! And maybe you missed the news!
If you’re not sure what a Trial Reel is, lemme explain it to you:
Trial Reels are Reels you can post that don’t show up on your feed and are pushed to users who don’t follow you. This helps creators push different content they might have been wanting to experiment with that they felt they couldn’t with their current audience.
Instagram reported that 40% of creators who used Trial Reels ended up posting more, and it led to an increase of 80% in reach with non-followers.
Pretty huge tbh.
Now, they are giving creators even more insight by allowing them to schedule when their Trial Reels are posted to non-followers. This will help creators determine the type of content, time of day, and more.

Top Meta news from the week

HUGE! Instagram creators will soon be able to tag products directly on their Reels. No more saying “link in bio!”
All of those pesky spam group chats you’re added to on IG? You can now require approval before you’re added back in.
Meta Verified subscriber? You can now make sure your profile is featured in the “Recommended Meta Verified Profiles” section on feeds, which pushes your profile out to even more people on Instagram and Facebook.
Instagram has added a teleprompter feature for Reels! Now you don’t have to download Edits if you don’t want to!
You can finally edit your Instagram comment (but you only have 15 minutes to do so).
Instagram Notes are expanding! You can now share Notes with everyone, even those followers that you don’t follow back.
Will the Messenger web app live on? Apparently so, but at a completely new URL.
Woof. This isn’t good for Meta. All of Meta’s apps have gone down in usage by users across the board.

Read of the Week
Can detoxing from social media remove 10 years of cognitive decline?

Damn.
Not only that, but participants had better attention spans, lower symptoms of depression, and less insomnia. Plus, it seems even after they all got the full range of their phones back to them, the effects of the detox lingered.
While there is way more to the study than just those top facts (like, how social media doesn’t affect every single person in the same way and it’s all user-based, blah blah), it is fascinating to see that a detox can be good for the brain.
And according to the study, even taking a few hours away from it per week can help in the long run.
