Weekly social roundup

OpenAI and a whole lot of nothing

Happy Tuesday!

It’s a slow news week (well, not for Sora 2, but for everyone else!!), which we all know makes me nervous.

When all the social media platforms are quiet for too long, it means that something big is going to drop.

Or, it could just mean that they’re all taking a much-needed break from changing things that people love … not.

Here are your top highlights of the week!

You’re invited to the world’s largest email marketing conference.

AI slop isn’t stopping any time soon

OpenAI is taking on social media 👀

Sora 2 is out, and everyone is freaking out. 1. Because it’s so good. 2. Because now it feels like the internet and TikTok, specifically, are being overrun with AI slop, and none of us can really tell what is real and what is AI.

The new model of Sora allows you to write out your prompt, and a video will be produced (with audio!) that’s actually synchronized to the video, whereas before it was just background music or sound effects.

And the next step for OpenAI’s Sora? Social media.

Yes, there is an app available on iOS currently (it’s invite-only at the moment), but I am sure once it goes through its initial trials and beta tests, it will soon be available for everyone.

The app, according to those on the invite list, resembles TikTok with a FYP and a feature called “Cameo.”

Cameo is a feature that grants the app permission to create videos using your voice, face, and other features. Eek.

According to employees at OpenAI, Sora is their go-to when it comes to texting, voice noting, and more. It seems as if these Cameos of themselves could be potentially replacing real interactions as their online self can chat, voice note, and more to their online friends … with no actual human interaction.

Scary!

Not only that, but other people can use your Cameo and create AI-generated videos of you … without your sign-off.

Yes, you can revoke access and delete videos that use it, but if you put it out there … you could potentially be in a video that you don’t necessarily approve of.

There is still a lot to be done with the new Sora app; it does seem that this is going to be the next big thing. And I, for one, am a bit nervous about how far this tech will go.

Will you be giving your Cameo to Sora?

Website I’m loving

Need inspiration?

Sometimes I just need to be creatively inspired, and the way I used to do that in the past was scrolling endlessly on Tumblr back in 2008.

I still do that (and I am only admitting that to you, dear reader!), but I recently discovered itsnicethat.com.

It’s a great website to scroll through ideas and inspiration from designers, branding experts, and more.

Plus, you learn how they got to their result and what inspires them.

And that’s all, folks!

Want even more of me (I won’t blame you if you say no), you can follow me on TikTok!
