Social media news you NEED to know about
Reels are 20 minutes now, CapCut's Terms of Service, and so much more!!!

Weekly social roundup
What a week.
Oof. Has everyone deleted CapCut? Did we all read those new Terms of Service and noped out of that app real quick? Because I sure did.
ICYMI: CapCut updated its T&Cs and … it’s not great. Essentially, any content you upload into the app, they own. Fully.
I know there will be a lot of people who’ll go, “But isn’t this the same as other apps already?”
No, this goes that one step further where they can license your videos without your written consent because, yes, you have given them your consent to do so by agreeing to the Terms.
Wild stuff.
If you’re looking for an alternative, might I suggest Edits and/or VEED (my personal favorite). Best part? VEED is offering 50% OFF the first 3 months for Talk Social To Me listeners. I promise. You’ll love it.
Have we been doing it wrong?
Meta says stop putting links in your posts 🔗

Last week, it was reported that Meta says your posts do worse if you put a link in your post, instead of adding it as a first comment.
Now that Meta gives suggestions when you’re posting on Facebook, one of the recommendations a lot of users have received recently is to add a link as a comment and remove it from your post.
And even if you delete the URL after letting Facebook generate a preview for you, it still can minimize your reach on the platform. Instead, add images into your main post, add a link to the first comment, and redirect people there, and watch your reach increase across Facebook.

Top social media highlights from the week 🗞️
Meta
No more video uploads on Facebook. All video content will be turned into Reels.
Meta is going all steam ahead on AI glasses and is now collaborating with Oakley and Prada on new smart glasses.
It seems Meta Horizon is going nowhere, especially as it teases its new AI generation inside the game.
Brands, businesses, and creators: Shared Access (aka being able to have multiple logins for one account) is officially live on Instagram.
An Explore feature for Stories is coming soon.
If you want, you can now share photo collages through Instagram DMs. 👍
Cooooooool. WhatsApp will start showing more and more ads inside the app. Can’t we have one nice thing?!
But for those in the EU, ads aren’t coming until next year.
You can bold, italicize, or strikethrough your text in IG DMs.
Do you have this feature yet? You can now caption your Instagram Stories.
Eeek! Instagram has been banning and suspending accounts, and users are blaming it all on AI.
Edits keeps adding more features, and after the CapCut Terms of Service controversy, I am here for it!
A rewards program is coming to Threads for specific creators.
This is good intel: Threads is showing the number of users interested in a certain topic when searching.
Update your WhatsApp status with its new music sticker.
WhatsApp is doing AI summaries for all chats inside the app. Because our attention spans aren’t bad enough…
TikTok
Is it possible that President Trump is breaking the law by extending the TikTok ban again?
Gamifying wellness will reduce screen time? That’s what TikTok seems to think with this new feature.
You can create your own meme using TikTok’s newest Meme Sound feature.
Is this like Snapchat Friends? TikTok’s new feature Connect Now lets you find friends nearby through your Bluetooth.
Businesses: Quick replies are available in TikTok DMs.
In-stream shopping has increased 120% on TikTok … apparently.
X
You’ll soon be able to tip, trade, and pay all inside X.
Uh oh. Looks like X might have to pay up to music publishers soon for a copyright lawsuit.
Hmm, it appears that X is limiting the number of Community Notes a contributor can write on an author’s post.
Grok is getting retrained, according to Elon Musk.
YouTube
Product tagging on YouTube has been simplified (and more prominent!).
Creators! It seems like YouTube is working hard on finding new ways to get you more money through Shorts.
If you have an ad blocker on YouTube, your videos might be slowed down.
New podcast features are coming to YouTube.
Cool, cool, cool (not). Google is training its AI on YouTube videos, and creators didn’t have a clue! 🙃
YouTube is making it easier for creators to pitch themselves to new brands and businesses.
Oof. YouTube Premium has increased its price in Australia, and it seems people fear it’ll soon happen worldwide.
Others
Minnesota passed a new bill that says social media must come with a warning label when you log in.
It seems the trial in Australia to ban social media for under-16s isn’t nearly as flawless as people would wish.
A headline that made me do a double-take this week: the CEO of Telegram is leaving his fortune to the 100 children (yes, 100) he has fathered.
As someone who is chronically online, it feels strange that I don’t know a lot of the Forbes Top Creators of 2025.
Another 90 days!!!
The TikTok ban deadline has been extended again 🙃
How many times do we think this is going to happen? Do we ever believe TikTok will sell its US portion? Or is the deadline going to continue being extended until the end of time?
I think the latter.
LOL.
Apparently this time around, the US government is feeling positive about a deal, but again, we’ve heard this all before. 🙃
Extras!!

Coughing up the BIG bucks
Meta is offering $100 million in bonuses 🤑
Just writing that headline makes me sick to my stomach.
Oof.
Sam Altman, Chief Executive of OpenAI, explained on a podcast last week that Meta is coughing up some big bucks to get OpenAI’s best people over to Meta. However, Altman said that his best people haven’t left yet.
And yes, this was after Meta paid $14.3 billion for a 49% stake of the AI startup, Scale AI.
If we ever thought AI might slow down anytime soon, we were seriously, seriously wrong.
A curated list of fun things to read
My favorite reads of the week
Other reads I really loved and have been thinking quite a bit about:
Older generations don’t trust digital brands, while millennials and Gen Z are all in.

Trending audio of the week 🕺
One of my all-time favorite songs, it's the perfect soundtrack for showcasing small moments of your life, AKA: the moments you love with the people you love.
How it works: Overlay this track with clips of your favorite memories: slow mornings, friends laughing, road trips, or time with loved ones.
Great for: Travel, lifestyle creators, memory recaps, couples, or anyone sharing soft, story-driven content.

Indy Clinton, Cyberbullying, and Tattle Life
I have been watching the incredible work Indy Clinton has done over the past few weeks against the bullies that have been constantly barraging her over her content, and most recently, the nose job she had done.
Now, she hired a PI to look into the trolling and is working on a social media campaign to find a way to criminalize cyberbullying.
