The social media news you need this week

TikTok launches a new podcast network

Weekly social roundup

Slow news week

It’s been a fairly quiet week, well, in terms of social media. 🙃

We’re still waiting on the details of the US TikTok buy. We’re waiting to see what wild thing Zuck is going to do next (I’m sure it won’t be long before he does something that has us all scratching our heads soon).

Until then, here is the news of the week!

New apps! New partnerships! New features (a lot no one asked for)!

Let’s dive in.

Get your ears ready!

Podcasts 🤝 TikTok

It looks like TikTok is trying to get into the podcast game, much like Netflix and YouTube.

This past week, TikTok partnered with iHeartMedia to create a brand new podcast network, TikTok Podcast Network (clever name).

The initial launch will have 25 new podcasts from TikTok creators, plus iHeartMedia will launch TikTok Radio inside its platform. At the moment, who will be the TikTok podcast hosts is still under wraps, but this is an absolute massive partnership for both companies.

For IHeartMedia, it helps the company reach a younger audience, something it has been trying to do for years. For TikTok, it helps the company expand its reach across platforms, plus get deeper roots in the US. Which is an interesting move considering the TikTok deal still isn’t signed.

Another country bans social media

Denmark says “Goodbye, social media!”

Like the other countries that are moving forward with this ban, Denmark doesn’t have a clear plan on how this will be implemented (go figure), but it also said it will give parents the ability to allow their children on social media from age 13, if they want.

At the moment, a timeline for the ban hasn’t been set in place and, more than likely, will take months to actually put together the legislation to do so.

Get your life together!

New app alert: Rodeo

The former COO of Hinge, Sam Levy, has released a brand-new app into the wild, and I think it’s one everyone will want to try (well, I definitely want to, and I’ve joined the waitlist!).

It takes all your links, screenshots, and messages about plans you have scattered across various apps and messaging platforms, and bundles them all together in one place.

The Instagram link to the Christmas wreath-making class your friend DM’d you? Copy the link, and Rodeo will add all the details together for you. The dinner plans you made on WhatsApp? Screenshot the message and throw it into Rodeo. It will add all the necessary details together for you.

It’s like your own personal virtual assistant, and as someone who says yes to a million things but can’t ever remember what I’ve said yes to, I think this will be a lifesaver for me personally.

Currently, Rodeo is only sending invites to those on the waitlist, so if this sounds up your street, click the link below to join the waitlist.

Things you need to know

Want more engagement? Reply to comments.

Honestly, it really is that easy. And as someone who is a social media manager, I can tell you this is true.

Buffer recently released a report with actual data from over 2 million posts from over 220,000 accounts (!!), and the answer is clear: Reply to comments.

According to the data:

People are desperate for community online, and engaging with users is the step to do that.

And that’s all, folks!

Hope you loved it!

Thanks, forever and always, for your support, and I’ll talk to you next week!
